Commonly used terms
Accents - Decorative items placed in such a way as to define a style and give character. For example a glass vase with flowers or a stone bowl. This can also be items like rugs and drapery as they all accent the home.
Close - The stage in a sales process where all contingencies have passed, all agreements have been fulfilled (unless they require action over an extended period of time) and the final payment has been transferred from the buyer to the seller.
Consultation - A meeting with a professional in a field to discuss the needs of the client and to make suggestions based on their experience.
Contingencies - Things which can affect the original terms of the contract such as an appraisal or home inspection.
Curate - to source and acquire specialized items. This is not ordering random materials, rather it is picking and choosing the exact materials.
Interior Decorating - The process of styling an interior residential or commercial space. This is commonly done by hiring a professional who understands design trends/styles but it is most often done by one’s self.
Interior Design - The process of creating or changing the internal structure or layout of a space. This differs from interior decorating in that it typically requires a state license and certification due to the increased risk of adding or removing walls and such. Interior designers often do interior decorating but interior decorators do not do interior design.
Listing - The action of placing the details of the property for sale on a database for real estate agents and the public to access.
real estate - Real Refers to the physical land and its permanent additions, not movable items. Estate Signifies the interest or rights (ownership, use) a person or entity has in that property.
Staging - The activity or practice of styling and furnishing a property for sale in such a way as to enhance its attractiveness to potential buyers.
Wow Factor - An effect of surprise, admiration, or appreciation produced on the potential buyer after the first contact with a product, service, advertising or experience.
